”W tym czasie w Judei mieszka człowiek o szczególnych zaletach. Jego imię to Jezus Chrystus, którego poganie uważają za proroka a jego wyznawcy kochają i uwielbiają go jako potomka Nieśmiertelnego Boga. On wskrzesza zmarłych z grobu i leczy wszystkie choroby słowem lub dotykiem.

To jest wysoki i dobrze zbudowany mężczyzna o czcigodnym i miłym obliczu; jego włosy koloru dojrzałego kasztana pofalowane do ramion. Wysokie, duże, imponujące czoło, jego policzki bez krost czy zmarszczek, pięknie rumiane. Jego nos i usta ukształtowane z wyśmienitą symetrią. Jego broda gęsta koloru pasującego do włosów, długości poniżej podbródka. Jego oczy jasno-niebieskie wyraźne i spokojne. Wzrok niewinny, dostojny, męski i dojrzały. Proporcje ciała perfekcyjne i urzekające. Jego ręce i dłonie najbardziej wspaniałe do oglądania.

Gani dostojnie, doradza łagodnie, jego przemowy lub czyny są wymowne i poważne. Nikt nie widział go śmiejącego lecz jego maniery są niezwykle uprzejme, ale płakał w obecności ludzi. Jest powściągliwy, skromny, i mądry. Człowiek z niezwykłym pięknem i boską doskonałością, przewyższający wszystkich w każdym aspekcie.”

OUR WONDERFUL JESUS

A description of Jesus Christ; as written in a letter by Publius Lentulus; a Roman Centurion to Tiberius Caesar, who was then the Emperor of Rome.

            “There lives at this time in Judea, a man of singular virtue, whose name is Jesus Christ, whom the barbarians esteem as a prophet, but his followers love and adore him as the offspring of the Immortal God. He calls back the dead from the grave and heals all sorts of diseases with a word or a touch.

            He is a tall man and well shaped, of an amiable and reverent aspect; his hair of a colour that can hardly be matched; the colour of chestnut full ripe, falling in waves about his shoulders. His forehead high, large and imposing, his cheeks without spot or wrinkle, beautiful with a lovely red, his nose and mouth formed with exquisite symmetry, his beard thick and of a colour to suit his hair, reaching below his chin. His eyes bright blue, clear and serene, look innocent, dignified, manly and mature. In proportion of body, most perfect and captivating, his arms and hands most delectable to behold.

            He rebukes with majesty, counsels with mildness, his whole address, whether in word or deed, being eloquent and grave. No man has seen him laugh, yet his manner is exceedingly pleasant; but he has wept in the presence of men. He is temperate, modest and wise; a man for his extraordinary beauty and divine perfection, surpassing the children of men in every sense.”
